Come On, Irene!
We tied down the patio furniture, tarped off the basement windows, cleared the garage for a neighbor's car to fit inside, tied the boys' playhouse to a tree, drew the curtains and said a prayer that Hurricane Irene would be kind to our house.
What started as a voluntary evacuation became a mandatory one.
So we packed the car and headed west to Grandmom and Grandpop's.
It was a nice weekend to be all cozy, hunkering down together, especially because it was Grandpop's birthday. We played games, watched movies, ate some cake, drank some wine and waited. The storm was pretty uneventful down in Marlton.
Sunday morning, we called some friends to get the scoop on our town and our house. After two good friends popped in to check on our situation and reported back that things looked good for us, we headed home.
Our house was in good shape. Our basement was DRY! There are some ginormous branches in our backyard, but all in all, this old house must be stronger than I thought. We are so thankful.
Some roads here were flooded, some roofs have gaping holes from falling trees, including one right around the corner from our house. I took a walk this morning to check out the damage. It definitely could've been worse. I think everyone is grateful.
It's amazing how just one day after the storm the skies are blue and the sun is shining.
